This tour is another way to discover the heritage of Morocco: visits to the medinas and authentic Berber villages, alternating between trekking across the dunes and oasis with accommodation in the homes of local families and hotels.

TRAVEL PROGRAM

Day 1: Airport – Fez
Pick up at airport and transfer to the hotel. Depending on the time of arrival in Fez, you will have the opportunity to do an optional trip to Volubilis (the Roman ruins). Free dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 2: Fez
We will dedicate all the second day to the guided tour of Fez, the oldest of the imperial cities. Founded in 808 as the first political, religious and cultural capital, Fez possesses a remarkable medina (UNESCO heritage). The first stop of the visit will be the golden doors of the royal palace and the Jewis neighborhoods. Later, we will go to the medina and walk through its labyrinthine streets. We will visit also the neighborhoods of craftsmen (carpet weavers, goldsmiths, tanners…) that give to Fez the deserved name of “city of craftsmen.” Free dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 3: Fez – Azrou – Midelt – Valley of Ziz – Erg Chebbi Desert
The third day of our trip we will leave Fez early in the morning on the way to the Erg Chebbi Desert. We will go through the Atlas, passing along Azrou (optional stop in the cedar forest where you will have the possibility to take pictures of monkeys), Midelt (optional stop for lunch) until we will get to the Ziz Valley, where we will enjoy the spectacular view of its vast oasis full of palm trees. During this journey, we will discover the wonderful southern Morocco and we will make several stops to admire the view and photograph the landscape. Slowly we will cross the door of the desert and get to the Erg Chebbi and its magic sand dunes. Dinner and overnight stay in one of the most beautiful hotel of the region.

Day 4: Erg Chebbi Desert
After watching the sunrise over the beautiful desert landscape and taking breakfast, we will be ready to begin a new day. Our first stop will be in the village, where we will see the famous oasis with its khettara – an ancient irrigation system of wells and subterranean canals. Then, we will visit he ancient imperial capital of Morocco – Rissani. Here we will enjoy in a walk in the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, visit the museum of Ksar Fida and walk in its famous souk, a traditional market that is a maze of sounds, noises, colors, flavors, contacts among which is nice to get lost.
The highlight of this visit will be the lunch: a pizza in an old Berber ksar in the exit of Rissani.  a walk in the oasis where you will discover the challenges and the natural beauty of some of the most beautiful natural sites in the region of the Erg Chebbi desert, we will do a journey into the past to visit the ancient salt pans.
During this interesting walk through the oasis to get to the heart of Ksar Haroun where we will meet the main beekeeper of the village that will take us to his house and show us his wall hives and explain how honey is produced in the desert. In the end, we will also taste some of the local specialties: bread bakes in the clay oven, delicious honey of the desert and dates syrup, all accompanied by a delicious tea of herbs harvested in the area. In the late afternoon, we will leave the ksar and return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 5: Merzouga – Nomad Camp – Berber Camp
After a peaceful night, we will be ready to start our first day of trekking. We will take the camels and, slowly, we will walk through the desert up to the Nomad Camp. From time to time, we will stop to photograph the wide expanse of golden sand and enjoy the landscape. At the camp, while the camel men will be preparing lunch, we will have the possibility to walk near the sand dunes (climb on the ridge, ski etc.) or, simply, rest a bit. After a break for lunch and a good cup of tea/coffee, we will take the camels and continue the trekking up to a camp located in the heart of the desert where we will spend an unbelievable night. In the evening, we will enjoy a delicious dinner accompanied by the rhythmic sound of drums. Overnight stay in tents or under the starry sky.

Day 6: Berber Camp – Hamada
After an unforgettable first night in the desert, we will wake up early to admire the magic of the sunrise over the sand dunes and have breakfast at their feet. We will leave the Berber camp and start a new day of trekking and go towards the Hamada – the black desert. A pause can regain strength after a nice three-hour walk before continuing our journey. We will walk for another two hours and in the afternoon we will reach a house made ​​of stone where a nomadic family lives. We will dinner with them featuring a good couscous and spend the night in a tent.

Day 7: Hamada – Merdani
Take a walk barefoot in the desert before breakfast is really worth and it is a good way to start the day. Then, we will walk t through the waste of the hamada for three hours, admiring the beautiful landscape and discovering the plants of the desert, until we will come to a large tamarisk tree (tree of the desert). The camel driver will serve a tea and will begin to prepare a Berber pizza cooked in the sand. After lunch and a healthy break, we will continue the walk (2 hours) until Merdani, an old abandoned village, where we will be guests of the only family that lives there. Dinner and overnight stay in an abandoned house or under the starry sky.

Day 8: Merdani – Mfis – Khamlia
After breakfast, while having the desert on our right, we will walk on the dry bed of Talghoumt River toward the abandoned village of Mfis (2 hours), famous for its mines of kohl, quartz, hematite and lead. During the visit of the site, when we will taking great pictures of this diverse landscape, almost lunar, the camel men will prepare lunch. Later, we will continue with the trekking and we will walk slowly towards Khamlia, a village inhabited by the tribe Gnaoua. The inhabitants of this place are the grandchildren of the last blacks slaves brought to Morocco. There, we will have the possibility to travel through time thanks to their spiritual music that will relax us and take us to another dimension. Dinner and overnight stay in Berber tents.

Day 9: Khamlia – Taboumiet – Tanamoust – Tamzydat – Dayet Srij – Merzouga
Unfortunately, this will be our last day of trekking and it includes the route Khamlia – Merzouga. Early in the morning we will leave Khamlia and walk through the villages Taboumiat, Tanamoust, Tamzydat, we will pass along the lake Dayet Srij and by noon, we will reach the hotel. After a nice, refreshing shower, we will be ready for lunch. In the afternoon, we will relax by the pool or on the terrace, drinking tea, take a walk in the village or climb on the big dune to watch the sunset. Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 10: Erg Chebbi Desert – Midelt – Ifrane – Fez
After breakfast, we will leave the desert behind us and we will go to Erfoud, the city of fossils. There, we will stop to visit a workshop of fossil, to get an idea of the geological age of this area and see how they work the natural fossil from the time when the stone is extracted until the final polishing. Then, we will continue our journey admiring the pre-desertic landscape. By 2:00 pm we will reach Midelt, famous for the production of high quality apples and mineral extraction, where we will stop for lunch. In the afternoon, we will arrive in Ifran, the little Switzerland of Morocco (optional stop) and finally reach the end point – Fez. Free dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 11: Fez – Airport
Depending on the time of departure, you will have the opportunity to take a walk in the medina or do an optional trip to Sefrou. Transfer to the airport at the appointed time.
